We took this bike rack from Wisconsin to Utah and back. No problems! Needs some minor adjustment after hours of travel, but a very reliable unit no matter what.Let’s be honest, it’s not the perfect bike rack and you can get nicer one out there, but this is the best rack in this price range. I first got the other similar product, and I returned it because it was defective. But I’m so glad it was defective, because I ended up having this product. Perfect choice for young family, fit well with casual use.I ordered this platform rack after reading reviews and really wanting this type of rack. It’s made of strong steel and assembly was straight forward. Did not take long and once put together, I agree with other reviewers that it is a decent rack for the money. I was looking at Thule or 1UP platform racks, but rather than spend $700-800 dollars on theirs(now I can use more of that money towards a newer bike), this rack looks like it will work just fine. It wobbled some at first, but after retightening all the bolts it felt more secure. With the bikes on, it developed some wobble but that was due to the weight of the bikes just shifting. On the highway it was steady and even on highway seams and speed bumps it only shook minimally. Now for the gripes. The biggest is it’s described on Amazon to have the “tilt down” function so that you don’t have to unload the bikes off the rack to access the rear hatch. If you are just going from home to trail and back again I don’t imagine it would be a big deal, but if you were multitasking and running errands after a ride and needed to put something in the back, you’d find in frustrating to have to unload to access the hatch. I will most likely keep the rack and not send it back since Covid has made getting anything take forever, and overall I am happy with its design and function. Some other petty gripes; there is no security feature to the rack. The bikes are secured to the rack with straps, no way to lock them so a bike lock or cable with a lock will need to be used. The straps used to secure the wheels to the cups are Velcro. I’d prefer that they were cinch straps like the straps that you use to secure the bike to the upright bar. I imagine the Velcro will wear out quick with dirt and grime after awhile. The upright bars do not lock into a folded down position. Once you unload your bikes and want to fold up the rack out of the way, the upright bars fold down, then you fold the whole platform up towards your vehicle. The upright bars after awhile will slowly work their way towards the back of you car and their metal rubbing against your vehicle. You can secure it with the straps that you use for the bikes, but just seems like there should have been something designed to “lock” them in place. Overall, good rack for the money, but one MAJOR and couple of minor cons kept me from giving it 5 stars.Update: January 2021We’ve used it a lot and the only issue is that the bikes rub a little. So putting some padding where the bikes touch is something to consider.PRO:--This is a sturdy feeling unit. I am impressed with the welds and the robustness of the design. Everything works like it should.--Was easy to put together. You will need some wrenches.CONS:--I don't particularly care for is the 1.25" to 2" adapter. That thing could be a little more snug. I can shim it up and make it less wobbly/rattle less, but I only do that for longer road trips. The other issue related to this is the hitch pin. It is a threaded bolt with a whole for a pin on the end. You will need a wrench with you to install this snuggly, otherwise the threads are machined well enough you could just hand tighten this in and be fine for shorter rides. Which is what I do.--The triangles used to support the bike are pretty large. 24" universal mountain bikes with a "top bar adapter" were a little fiddly to get on the rack. I had to raise all the seat posts up to make enough room to get them hung. This could be my technique, but it can be a challenge to hold a heavy bike up that long for some people.Observations:I had to learn the hard way that women's bikes and "universal" bikes will require an adapter on most bike carriers of this style. If you are curious, there are three types of frames:>Mens -- Straight upper bar that goes nearly level with the earth from stem to stem>Womens -- Swoopy bar that curves and bends, you know when you see it.>Universal -- These are like a men's bike, but the top bar is angled downward, no bends. The Allen brand adapter is the least expensive and I have three of them now. There is a review about those where someone got some vinyl hose and wrapped that around the pin that goes under the handle bars. I recommend that too.The first thing we are going to do is take it on a 5 hour car trip down the interstate to a secluded beach house (you know, covid) I will update the review if anything "Shakes out" on that trip. The reason I chose this bike rack was the several reviews that mentioned they had used this for years while hauling bikes up and down the USA. I did not pick the ALLEN four bike rack (premium) because there were several reviews that showed bent arms. Time will tell if this was the right "Sub-200" dollar bike rack. Also - I paid money for this and no one is my keeper. These are my opinions, period.Easily holds my 27" mountain bike and 2 20" BMX bikes. Easy to put together, easy to install. Wish it would accept a different locking pin instead of the threaded one that is included, but this is a small complaint.I use this set up for 2 Trek Top Fuel 7 and a Genesis Villotti... they hold up very well, make sure you set it up correctly or else it will wabble, I bought an extra strap for extra security... this set up is great, just needs to be a little taller...Works well so far for my touring bike 35 plus pounds. Not sure of durability. Pin for hitch bolt I replaced for $3 with one on Amazon after a few usesAccroché au kona, parfait pour 2 vélos adulte et un enfant. Embêtant à rabattre pour accéder au coffre car il faut toujours avoir la petite clé fournie avec soi et passer son temps à visser et dévisser... Ça tient parfaitement, y compris avec les soubresauts des routes défoncées du québec! ?Absolutely love this unit. Might not be the best carrier for 3 HEAVY bikes, but that’s not my problem. The first couple of times putting bikes on or off does take some time. You have to figure out which bike to put where, and where to position the centre posts & wheel supports. However after that is mastered, getting the bikes back on or off is very quick and easy. I was very pleased with how fast I could load 3 bikes and be ready to go compared to others. Also was still able to access my trunk with all bikes in place... bonus! Once all bike were strapped in place, I also couldn’t believe how close and tight the carrier holds everything without a single spot of contact between bikes... unbelievably good use of every millimetre. I use the smaller hitch option, which at first seemed a bit looser than I would have preferred... can’t speak for the larger adapter that comes with the unit since I couldn’t try that. However after making an “L” shaped shim out of some sheet metal I had laying around, that totally solved the shake, (or slack) once it was mounted in the hitch. Now all installed, it looks and feels like a carrier that you would easily pay 3 times the price for in a LBS. The only con I can see, as others have mentioned, the paint does seem to scratch easily. The pedals are really the only thing that can come into contact with parts of this carrier. So if you have any type of GOOD pedal, with skid pins, or that bights well on a shoe, then expect those pedals to also bight through the paint on the frame of this carrier if the two ever touch each other. Will probably go and have the centre section of this carrier LINE-X coated at some point for further protection of those scratches. Have put over 200 Km’s on my rack so far with zero problems. LOVE IT!!!PROS: Price, Bike fit range & compatibility, value.CONS: Would not hold a fat bike or any tire over 2.8 (unless maybe you deflated the tire partially). Paint.Review I am giving here is for bike rack before I have used it even once. After our trip will have a follow up impressions of it. Package arrived a 3 days earlier so, thank you Amazon! Original box from Bell was fit into thick cardboard shipping box and had no rips, dings or traces of any physical damage so, thank you Canada Post! Now the rack itself: It is very smart design and assembly was a breeze. All tools came with package, but not bad to have your own ratchet set for faster work. I am attaching it to a 2" hitch receiver, so, aluminum insert that came with it is a perfect fit and even though slides inside easily, gives no room for shaking and play. Excellent! The way bike tire receivers slide, give endless opportunity for accepting all sizes of bikes. We have the largest ones - city cruisers and they fit excellently. Here is place to say, that there's no way to fit 3 large or even medium sized frame bikes. You can comfortubly attach 2 of them on the outer trays and medium left free. One thing to consider is the pin securing the bolt holding bike rack to hitch receiver. It is good, no doubt! It screws through bike rack arm to hitch receiver and once tightened is safe and tight. The securing pin though on the other end is useless and could be removed for mere 3 seconds. Good thing is, that hole for securing pin is big enough to accommodate small padlock, which is at least peace if mind. Overall very pleased with purchase and at this price is unbeatable. Will strongly recommend. Will give a follow up after we're back from our trip.Very impressed with this 3 bike rack and the way it comes together, sturdy no wobble, and with 2 bikes on there is still enough clearance to open the trunk of my highlander fitted with a Uhaul hitch. I can imagine a wobble if the nut at the hitch is installed in the wrong direction, which is easy to do. It's pretty much the only nut you have to make sure is tight, no need to over tighten any of the other nuts (better if you don't). The only improvement i can imagine would be a quick release mechanism for the tires instead of feeding the velcro strap over and under the bike tires, but that's not a huge deal.
